The Appraisal and the Internet

Harold Weinstein Ltd. has been appraising jewellery for Canadian customers for just shy of 40 years. During that time we have always tried our best to do work that is both professional and carefully prepared. Most of our customers understand what we do and how we do it. A few do not.

The internet provides a platform for those people, who do not understand, to vent their ignorance. The problem with this of course, is that some things last forever on the internet. The poisonous comments from these misinformed people never die.

The last negative comment we had from a person who did not or chose not to understand what we do was posted almost a decade ago, and yet it appears prominently in a Google search for our company. We have no idea why.

 

How to identify moissanite

Synthetic moissanite, is doubly refractive. This means that a ray of light passing through this sort of gem is slowed, bent and split in two as it passes though the medium.

The trick is to look not through the table but another crown facet. The doubling is easy to spot for the trained eye.
